Dropbox will be the most likely candidate here. Will be reviewing how easy/hard this is.
How do you guys think it should work?

allow offline editing
I would love a replacement for my OSs default text editor for just jotting down ideas and notes. To do this, offline support would be required.

typewriter scrolling
An option to keep focused line in center of screen would make it easier to write as one would not need to move their eyes while writing, and be able to see before and after a line while editing.
42 votesyes, great idea

Add markdown support.
I love that there is no formatting in the UI, but a markdown interpreter for the published stuff would be pretty great.
41 votesWhat do you guys think? Should it be markdown by default and have an option for HTML in settings? Or should it ONLY be markdown?

Use a Folder Tree to Organize Writings
A folder tree to organize writings by topic along with search functionality would make this my go-to notepad.

Hidden Toolbar
Maybe make the menu act like a hidden toolbar does in windows... hover over it to wake it up. That way the mouse can be used for navigation within the text, without waking the menu.

Add some pre-defined skins
Apart from the ability to change the editor aspect, it would be great to let the user chose between different minimalistic skins or themes.

LastPass Support
Currently the login box is not recognized by LastPass. It would be great if there was a way to get this to work!

allow users to "favorite" writings
Have a button to bookmark/favorite/[insert synonym here] a given writing, which will add it to a publicly viewable list of such favorites on the user's profile page. Also be able to remove them from within the Account page or the writing page.

Have adjustable mouse sensitivity for waking the menu
Prevent the menu from popping up unexpectedly by requiring more than just a graze of the touchpad or other input device.
15 votesThat is a good idea. I will play with a higher threshold. In general though, I want to make sensible defaults, rather than exposing unnecessary options to the user.

keep this product minimal
What you don't do is just as important as what you do. Decide now, set boundaries, let users know what this product will become so we can know what to use it for.
10 votesTotally agreed. The main point is to just be a place to concentrate on writing. I’m going to be sure to keep it minimal.
I’ll be making a blog post (or, I guess a quietwrite post :) ) soon about more positioning of this product.

Tagging
Maybe this goes agains simplicity and minimalism, but... what about adding tags or labels to the texts? Just that, no notebooks, no more complicated things, but just a way to classify the entries via tags.
In case this suggestion is admitted, I suggest also a good task management to be developed (so that tags can be renamed easily when needed, and so on).
